Starting a New Chapter
Regional Councillor Deb Schulte and other dignitaries from the City of Vaughan, the Principal, Teachers and students from Danilack Middle School, Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto joined Seeds for Change representatives for a special dedication ceremony. The launch of the 2014 season garden also kicked off this year’s "Starting a New Chapter" theme. The school donated a Little Free Library to the community's "Growing To Give" Garden – built and stocked by the generous students. The miniature outdoor libraries have two shelves filled with donated books and visitors to the garden are encouraged to "Take a book - Return a book". The movement began in Wisconsin in 2009 and has spread to more than 3,000 libraries all over the world! This library will not only help promote literacy for volunteers of all ages and cultures, but will encourage people to use our gardens as a place of respite and conversation, whilst munching on delicious, nutritional vegetables and fruit!
