Italian Heritage Month Flag Raising Ceremony

To celebrate Italian Heritage Month, the City of Vaughan teamed up with the National Congress of Italian Canadians for a special flag raising ceremony. The festivities kicked off with an official welcome followed by an exhibition of artwork titled Vintage Vistas: Paintings by Salvatore Gallo and Giuseppe Pivetta in the Main Atrium. Both Salvatore and Giuseppe are distinguished painters of Italian descent and based in Toronto. The celebration of Italian-Canadians continued just outside City Hall afterwards, as dignitaries from all levels of government joined representatives from the National Congress of Italian Canadians & citizens of Vaughan to officially kick off Italian Heritage proceedings in Vaughan. One a number of speakers took to the podium to highlight the importance of this celebration during the month of June, it was time for Mayor Bevilacqua and guests to raise the Italian flag to fly proudly beside the flags of both the City of Vaughan and Canada outside of City Hall. After the ceremony, everyone was invited inside the Multipurpose room to enjoy a lunch that featured many Italian fixtures and closing out a great morning for Vaughan and Italian Canadians alike.
