Lunch with Sergio Marchionne in support of Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund
The Business Community in the GTA is known for banding together, despite various industry rivalries, to support the global community in times of need. The Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund has helped provide much needed aid and awareness to the plight of those affected by the devastating earthquake that shook the Italian community in April.
The Abruzzo Earthquake Relief Fund was created in the days following the destructive earthquake in Abruzzo last April by a number of organizations. “A Lunch with Sergio Marchionne,” brought both entities together for an all-day affair in support of the efforts to rebuild in Abruzzo. Many dignitaries, officials from all levels of government as well as those from the financial sector, were on hand at the Liberty Grand on February 12th. $642,000 was rasied at the event with the province of Ontario kicking in an additional $500,000.
Attendees were treated to a special reception, a delicious lunch, and the highlight - keynote speeches from none other than the namesake of this event, CEO of Chrysler Group LLC Sergio Marchionne, as well as the Honourable Tony Clement. Marchionne was born in Chileti, in the region of Abruzzo, and emigrated to Toronto with his family when he was 13. he now resides back in Italy.
