3rd Annual Italian Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony
On Monday September 5th, the 2011 Italian Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony took place. The Italian Walk of Fame is located in the heart of downtown’s famed tourist destination known as “Little Italy”, while the ceremony is held annually right here in Vaughan, at the beautiful Riviera Parque.
This year’s inductees were: Alfredo De Gasperis (builder & developer), Connie Stevens (singer & actor), Roberto Luongo (NHL Goaltender with the Canucks & Olympic Gold Medalist), Luigi Aquilini (entrepreneur & businessman), Bobby Curtola (rock ‘n roll legend), & Franco Nero (Award-Winning actor). While all of the inductees spoke of what the honour meant to them, it was Franco Nero who drew a standing ovation with a stirring speech, alluding to the Italian Walk of Fame induction as, “my Oscars.”
Performances from Michael Burgess, Carlo Coppola, & Laura Palumbo rocked the crowd throughout the evening, and a Live Auction took centre stage after the inductees spoke. This year’s Gala represented the third year the ceremony has taken place. Past inductees include Armand Assante, Johnny Lombardi, and current MP for Vaughan Julian Fantino.
