Holiday Skating in Vaughan
During the holiday break, local community centres held free skates on various pads to accommodate the influx of people looking for local activities. Sponsored by Tim Hortons, the Free Community Skates were an excellent way for citizens of the city to remain active during the winter holiday break. On January 3rd, I made my way to a couple of rinks in the community and had the chance to meet with families who were relishing in the final weekday of the break for a variety of reasons. For the kids, it was one last Friday to sleep in a little and keep the pens and pencils out of their hands before school reconvened. For parents, while the extra bit of time spent with their children was definitely appreciated, there was a sense that they were going to enjoy sending their little guys and gals back to their classrooms. Regardless, the event was another huge success as the ice rinks being opened city-wide was a huge treat for people of all skill levels. People of all ages were on hand, helping to bring the community together one glide at a time.
