The Inaugural Vaughan Film Festival
It was not long ago when we covered local filmmakers Antonio Ienco and Mark Pagliaroli’s (Reel Film Pictures) first Grand Social Gala when they announced their vision to launch the city’s very first Film Festival. Just last month, their vision became a reality as they kick-started the inaugural Vaughan Film Festival on April 18th and 19th. We were proud to join and support the two amongst the crowds of film goers in attendance. On April 18th, those who came by were able to screen up to 16 submitted short films and art forms of all genres at Colossus Theatre in Vaughan. Then, on April 19th, during the Grand Social Gala, nearly 600 supporters came by once again to celebrate and honour the films and filmmakers who painstakingly crafted these creations for the city to witness and enjoy. Dinner, an open bar, wine, music and entertainment were provided. While guests were settled, the VFF’s first Golden Reel Award Winners for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, & Best Director were announced and awarded. Since the VFF continues to fulfill its mandate “to create a platform for creative artists and film makers to have the opportunity to let their talent shine,” more artists around the community will get the chance to showcase their craft, represent Vaughan’s artistic and cultural community, as well as help push the city into the global spotlight.
