The Canadian Premiere of 'The White Rose'
The Canadian Premiere of “The White Rose”, a play based on the true story of German students who secretly distributed leaflets opposing the fascist leadership of WW2 Germany, was enjoyed by one and all who made their way to the City Playhouse Theatre in Thornhill on November 7th. The Opening Night Gala featured a wine and cheese, the musical stylings of the Richmond Hill Philharmonic Orchestra and a variety of visual artists who were creating paintings which included themes from the evening’s performance. The performance was part of Holocaust Education Week celebrations, held in Canada from November 3rd - 9th. The White Rose, written by Lillian Groag, was named after the group who defied the times and the culture of hate that grew in their native land, choosing to revolt even in the face of imprisonment and eventual execution.
