2nd Annual Garry Zentil Charitable Golf Invitational
In an annual tradition, the family of Garry Zentil hosted the Garry Zentil Charitable Golf Invitational on May 9th at the Eagles Nest Golf Club. All participants arrived bright and early to sign up during registration while a light lunch was provided shortly after. It was a great day to play some golf and celebrate the life of a beloved man. Garry passed away in February 2012, and his friends and family have taken it upon themselves to carry on his memory through various charities like this one. It is fitting that the golf tournament took place at the Eagles Nest Golf Club as Garry was one of the four founders of Eagles Nest. The guests at this year’s tournament included many of Garry’s close friends and family as well as a few local businesses in the area. To honour the life and legacy of Garry, last year, his golf bag was bronzed and on display for everyone to pay their respects.
At this year’s event, a cheque for $65,000 was presented to the Humber River Hospital Foundation to further support the new hospital’s “Garry Zentil Lounge & Reception Room” that will be the welcome centre for patients and their families at the new Hospital’s Cardiology Department. As well this year, local resident Cameron Prukner, 2013 receipting of a Scholarship from the foundation for $3000.00 addressed guests with a moving speech about how much Garry and the Scholarship have inspired his life!
During some speeches and a delicious dinner shortly after everyone had finished golfing, guests took a moment to share their most treasured memories of Garry and just how much he had managed to accomplish!
